Film Submission FAQs
What are the submission deadlines?
We have one call for film submissions a year which generally happens in April. The call lasts about 2 months.
How do I submit my film?
The link to our submission is on our website - here. You can also find the link to our submission form on our call which we post on our social platforms. Please note - Only films that have been submitted using our online submission form will be considered for selection.
May I submit more than one film?
Please only submit one film per submission call.
Can I change anything on my submission form once I’ve completed and submitted it?
Once you’ve completed and submitted, it cannot be changed which is why we recommend you look at the preview of our form before you fill it out.
Can I submit through filmfreeway or other submission platforms?
As long as you provide a link that allows us to view your screener for the time span that’s been requested, yes. Please make sure the password is included if one is required. Please also ensure that your screener can be streamed and must not be downloaded in order to be viewed.
Do you accept re-submissions?
No.
Do I get a confirmation email for my submission?
Yes, you will get a confirmation email.
Can I submit a trailer for selection purposes?
No.
Do you need subtitles for the submitted films?
We require english subtitles for non-english films.
Which films are eligible?
We accept films that are 20 minutes and under from Eastern Africa which we define as Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Réunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Somaliland, Tanzania and Uganda.
What is the maximum length for short films?
We define a short film as any original solo standing piece of work that has a running time of 20 minutes or less, including all credits.
WIll I be notified on the status of my submission?
Once we’ve made our decision you will be notified by email. This generally does take some time so please bear with us.
